JÁN ZIMMER
CONTEXTS AND EVOLUTION OF THE COMPOSER'S WORK
Ján Zimmer (1926 – 1993) was an important Slovak composer, pianist, organist, and music teacher. Ján Zimmer composed over 120 opuses, including 3 operas, 13 symphonies, 7 piano concertos, and numerous chamber & solo works.
Zimmer is an important – although still largely neglected – part of the history of Slovak music. In his music, we can discover a varied evolution of composing techniques and aesthetics reflecting the development of different 'movements' in Slovak music. The evolution of Zimmer's work also reflects the influence of various compositional innovations and trends comming to Slovak music from Western Europe of that era.
